Product Care
Whether your gloves are purely fabric or have a coating of latex, nitrile, neoprene, or PVC on the palms, these steps will ensure they’re cleaned properly.
Removing Surface Dirt
Rinse off any loose dirt using a garden hose or a bucket of water. Gently Rub the gloves together to dislodge any soil
Hand Washing
Agitate the gloves in a solution of cold water and regular detergent. Let them soak for at least 10 minutes. Afterward, drain the soapy water and rinse the gloves in fresh water.
Press out the soap gently without twisting the gloves too much to keep their shape intact.
Drying
Avoid the tumble dryer. Instead, air-dry the gloves on a drying rack or outdoor line. Direct heat can cause shrinkage or damage, especially to gloves with neoprene palms.
Rubber gardening gloves, such as those made from latex, neoprene, nitrile, or PVC, are excellent for tasks involving fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. To clean them properly, especially if they’ve been used with chemicals, follow these steps and avoid mixing them with other laundry:
Pre-Rinse Gloves:
While wearing the gloves, rinse off any loose debris under a stream of cold water from a garden hose or utility sink.
Wash the Gloves:
Lather the gloves using a bar of soap or a bit of dishwashing liquid. For persistent stains, gently brush the area with a soft-bristled nylon brush.
Rinse the Gloves:
Take off the gloves and thoroughly rinse both the exterior and interior with cold water.
Air-Drying:
Hang the gloves to air-dry. To prevent mildew, ensure they dry completely.
Once the outside is dry, invert the gloves to dry the inside before storage.
Leather gardening gloves are essential for tough tasks but require proper care to prevent them from becoming dry and cracked.
Soil Removal
Brush off any loose dirt with a soft-bristled brush. If the gloves are wet and muddy, let them dry first before brushing.
Leather Cleaning
It’s important to clean leather gloves with a mild soap like saddle soap, not regular laundry detergent.
Gently work the soap into the leather with a washcloth using circular motions, moving to a clean part of the cloth as dirt is lifted. After cleaning, use a damp washcloth to remove any soap residue and then let the gloves air-dry away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
Leather Conditioning
Post-cleaning, condition the gloves to keep the leather soft. Apply linseed oil or a commercial leather conditioner with a soft cloth, massaging it into the leather. Let the gloves dry completely in the air.
Storage
Ensure the gloves are fully dry to avoid mildew. Store them in a cool, dry place until their next use.
By following these steps, your leather gardening gloves will remain durable and comfortable for many gardening seasons to come.
Cleaning Your Wellies
Dislodge any dirt or mud by rinsing your wellies under a hose or in a bucket of water. For more persistent marks, a soft to medium-bristled brush should do the trick. This step is crucial, especially if your boots have been exposed to chemicals or organic waste, which can deteriorate the rubber. Or use our new boot cleaner.
Drying Your Wellies
Ensure your wellies are completely dry by patting them down with a towel or leaving them to air-dry. Keep them away from heat sources like radiators, open fires, or direct sunlight, as these can harm the rubber. Instead, opt for a cool, well-aerated spot.
We recommend footwear be stored in a well-ventilated, shaded space, not under direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause discoloration, shirking, dryness to the point of cracking in footwear.
Use a gentle brush and mild soap to dislodge any dirt, then rinse out with warm water.
Leave to dry in an aeriated space, not under direct sunlight. The lining is fixed in the shoe & is not removeable.
